Nowadays Internet is available to almost all even to the kids. That is good but also brings many negative issues that we all need to take care of. We all need to teach kids to take a safe and confident decision while on the internet. So, these days hacking, scamming is common problem. And for them, the kids are easy targets as they are easy to distract or do a scam.

So, there are some fundamental points that we all must teach to our kids to make them safer, confident explorers of the online world.

Only share legit and proper news and facts.

The good (and bad) news is fast-paced online, and without forethought, children can find themselves in deceptive situations with lasting consequences. The solution? Learning to share with those who know and those who do not.

  • Encourage thoughtful sharing in managing online communications such as face-to-face communication.
  • Make sure if it is wrong to say, it is wrong to post.
  • Create guidelines on what type of communication is appropriate (and inappropriate).
  • Keep personal information about family and friends confidential.

Beware of Fakes

It is important to help children realize that people and situations online are not always what they seem to be. Distinguishing between true and false is a true online safety lesson. This is a very common problem these days and almost every day 1000 people lose money by this fraud emails, messages and calls.

Know the Signs of a Possible Scam

  • If statements about “winning” or getting something “free” sound too good to be true, they probably are.
  • Proper exchanges should not involve the provision of any personal information.
  • Always think before you act online and learn to trust your intuition.
  • Beware of fraudulent attempts to steal sensitive information — attempts to steal information such as login or account information by pretending to be a trusted contact by email, text, or other online communications.

Keep things(data) secure

Privacy is our right and beware to keep and maintain it. because scammers and hackers are waiting and trying every possible way to steal information. So, for kids, it is very important to keep the data safe and secure. It also helps to prevent damaging or destroying their devices.

Keep and make your passwords more safe and hard by:-

  • Do not use very common elements like D.O.B. or names or phone numbers. Keep the password complex but easy to remember.
  • Mix the use of uppercase and lowercase with numbers and symbols for making your passwords. Also, try replacing the letters with relatable symbols (use @ instead of “a”).
  • Also, if possible try to change the passwords in your most important accounts this helps to keep it more secure even after data leaks.
  • Moreover, do not use same password in all the sites or accounts. You can check that your password or data is already leaked or not through a website “haveibeenpwned.com“.

Always be kind and generous to people on the internet.

The Internet is a powerful amplifier that can be used for good distribution or blur. Children can take the high road by applying the concept of “treating others as you would like to be treated” in their online actions, positively impacting others and weakening bullying behaviour. But we need to teach them that not all people on the internet are not bad guys. Yes, also we must teach them that yes it is cool to be a kind human.

Be a responsible Internet user by:

  • Use your platforms on the internet to spread and distribute positivity and happiness and entertainment to people.
  • Also, Stop sharing any negative post or element. Try to report it if possible.
  • Respect others’ differences and thoughts or opinions. These days it is common to spread hatred for disliking anyone’s opinion about anything.
  • Prevent unsafe or immoral behaviour online with others.
  • Make an effort to support those who are being abusive.
  • Encourage children to speak up and report bullying online teach them how to take action.

Take advices from elders

One lesson that applies to any digital encounter: When children discover something questionable, they should feel free to talk to a trusted adult. Adults can support this behaviour by promoting open communication in the home and in the classroom.

  • Be clear about family or classroom rules and expectations about technology, as well as the consequences of misuse.
  • Keep the dialogue going through regular checks and encourage children to ask questions.
